A tribute

Thanks to the Mary Sue Foundation, staying at this exclusive boutique hotel has a cause beyond comfort and relaxation: helping children. Mary Sue Morris, creator of Posada del Angel, created a non-profit foundation with the objective of helping children of low income families in Guatemala to improve the quality of their education. After Mary Sue Morris passed away Enrique Urruela and Ricardo Balzaretti purchased the hotel and decided to support this wonderful cause. The foundation's primary objective is to educate the children for a better future in Guatemala . Thanks to the Project, 43 children a year in Guatemala have hope for better future.

“We will destine a percentage of year-end earnings to “Becas Mary Sue” to keep Mary Sue's name alive and support a wonderful cause. By staying with us, our guests are contributing to the education of these children that wouldn't be able to make it otherwise” Said Enrique Urruela, owner of Posada del Angel.

Mary Sue

Mary Sue Gibson Morris, creator of Posada Del Angel, grew up in Amarillo, Texas . She is a graduate of SMU.  Mary Sue has lived in Dallas, Cincinnati, Paris and New York City .  In 1963, the consummate traveler, she made her first trip around the world in style.  In 1968 Mary Sue traveled the world a second time, hitchhiking.

In 1990 she sold her business in New York City and started traveling again.  A die-hard traveler, Mary Sue says, "I have tried to create the hotel I always dreamed of staying at: comfortable, beautiful, elegant, and above all: FUN!!!! I dreamed of a hotel where someone would give me good advice on what to do and what was going on in town.  A hotel where you are just as comfortable being single as being married, a hotel where you get to know other guests and the local residents or you can be left entirely alone."

Continuing, Mary Sue says, "Reflecting on it all, I realize now that during my travels I was looking for the perfect place to live.   Antigua immediately caught my imagination.  I knew that I would be very happy living here. Antigua is about as close to Nirvana as you get."
